Good Home Teaching Story

Before I get to the Home Teaching story I want to repeat what happened at a recent 50th year High School reunion.  A man and a woman at the reunion were debate partners 50 years ago.  After high school, they went their separate ways marrying different people.  By this time, he was widower and she was a widow.

So they sat at the same table during the dinner.  They enjoyed recalling all the good times they had in high school.  As the dinner was ending, the man thought, "I am lonely; she seems lonely.  I think I will ask her to marry me. "

He said, "Let's get married!"

She said, "That's a great idea."

They were both excited, but had to go back to their separate places for the night.

He woke up the next morning.  He realized that he had asked her to marry last night, but he could not remember if she said yes or no.  Embarrassed, he called her and said,

"Last night when I asked you marry me, did you say yes or no?'
She answered, "I am so glad you called.  I knew last night someone had asked me to marry, but I could not remember who it was."
No to a more serious story.  Dick Flint was one of my housemate when I was a Freshman at BYU.  Later when Elena and I became engaged, we ran into Dick several times.  Both Elena and I knew Dick independent of each other.  We married, move back east.  I did not see Dick for over 45 years.
About 3 years ago, I learned that Dick lived one block away from us.  He and wife attended the other ward that meets in our chapel.  We had been together for seven years and had never seen the other.  Dick and his wife, Phyllis and Elena and I went out for desert about 4 times.  I also had lunch with him a couple of times.  So it was nice to get reacquainted.

Last week Dick died of cancer.  His funeral was this morning.  His son told the following story.

When Dick and family lived in California, Dick home taught a family.  The family did not attend church.  The parents were not interested  in attending church, but had no objection to Dick taking their children to church.  So Dick brought 4 children to meetings each Sunday.  All 4 children married in the temple.  All 4 were in attendance at today's funeral.  One of the children married Dick's son.  That was a home teaching success.
